Veterinary Examining Board 

Effective July 12, 2015, the Veterinary Examining Board (VEB) and all duties associated with the Board transferred from the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) per 2015 Wisconsin Act 55.  In order to best serve Wisconsin taxpayers during this transition, please refer to the information below to determine which Department will better serve your request:

  • Credential Issuance for new graduates:  DSPS through 12/31/2015; DATCP after 1/1/2016
  • Credential Issuance via endorsement:  DSPS through 12/31/2015; DATCP after 1/1/2016
  • Credential Renewal:  DSPS through 12/31/2015;  DATCP after 1/1/2016
  • Complaints against a VEB credential-holder:  DSPS through 9/16/2015; DATCP after 9/17/2015
  • Veterinary Examining Board meetings:  DSPS through 7/29/2015; DATCP all meetings thereafter

 On August 22, 2014, the DEA published its final rule in the Federal Register rescheduling hydrocodone combination products from Schedule III to Schedule II of the Federal Controlled Substances Act.  The scheduling action was effective October 6, 2014.  The Wisconsin Controlled Substances Board, pursuant to s. 961.11(4), stats. took affirmative action to similarly reschedule hydrocodone combination products from Schedule III to Schedule II effective November 1, 2014.


On July 2, 2014, the DEA published its final rule in the Federal Register placing tramadol into Schedule IV of the federal Controlled Substances Act effective August 12, 2014.  The Wisconsin Controlled Substances Board, pursuant to s. 961.11(4), stats., took affirmative action to similarly treat tramadol as a schedule IV controlled substance​​​​​​​​ effective September 1, 2014.
