Uniform Dwelling Code Council Meeting Postponed DATE: January 22, 2004
TO: UDC Council Members and Interested Parties
FROM: Duane Hubeler
SUBJECT: POSTPONEMENT OF NEXT UDC COUNCIL MEETING

The UDC Council meeting scheduled for February 4, 2004 has been postponed. The meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 7, 2004. Due to our heavy involvement with implementing the new inspection law, we have not had time to develop previously discussed topics into code language for discussion.

Current Code Project Status
We plan to add the code language to implement the UDC inspection law into the current rule package and have it effective approximately May 1, 2004. The current rule package will then consist of 3 items: 1) spindle spacing; 2) exiting from small dwellings (400 square feet and less); and 3) language necessary to implement the new inspection law. A public hearing was held on the first 2 topics in October of 2003. We hope to avoid another round of hearings on the inspection changes by including only language necessary to implement the law. Attached is a letter that appeared in the Construction Codes Report that gives a good overview of our plan to implement the inspection changes. This package is our highest priority right now. It should be ready to share in approximately 2 weeks. The total package should be no more than 3-4 pages of text and all Council members will receive a copy of the proposed changes once they have been approved by the Secretary.

Future Meetings
At the April 7 meeting , we should have code language dealing with recent topics such as foundation dampproofing, mercury thermostats, roof framing, sprinkler installation in accordance with NFPA 13D, etc. ready for discussion. At the regularly scheduled May 5 meeting, we should have the public hearing draft ready for discussion. We will then be back on schedule to implement these general code changes by April 1, 2005.

Any questions or comments? Please call Larry Swaziek at (608) 267-7701 or me at (608) 266-1390.
