S&B Credentials Program (Certifications, Licenses, Registrations)

The Safety and Buildings Division administers the certifications, licenses, and registrations of approximately 80,000 individuals in 73 categories. Examples of services are processing of new applications and renewals, exam administration, renewals, continuing education records, and continuing education course approval. Most certification, registration, and licensing services are located in the Madison offices.

2012 Credential Exam Dates

- Environmental and Regulatory Services credential application forms are now listed with the S&B credential application forms and also have their own area on the credential forms Internet page.

- Proposals for general update changes in SPS 305, Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations Code, have been sent to the legislature for assignment to committees for review.  See code development project documents.

- Applications for six new electrical credentials that become effective April 1, 2013 are available for download.  S&B will begin giving exams for the three that require exams in May, 2011, in case someone wishes to get the credentials early.  The other three credentials involve apprenticeships.  See all electrical credential applications.  See all S&B credential applications.  See more information, including code language involving new electrical credentials.

- The Department of Regulation and Licensing regulates sanitarians, engineers, architects, home inspectors, and other professions.

- The Department of Health Services regulates care facilities, hotels, and restuarants.

- The Department of Health Services also regulates asbestos and lead, including people doing abatement and removal.
