About the Safety and Buildings Division

The Safety and Buildings Division protects the health, safety and welfare of people in constructed environments in Wisconsin. The division developes, administers, and enforces state laws and rules relating to building construction, and safety and health.  PDF file showing history timeline for division.

The major functions of the division are:

  • conducting plan reviews;
  • conducting inspections/investigations;
  • issuing and administering credentials;
  • developing effective, efficient and reasonable administrative rules;
  • conducting education and training;
  • providing information, interpretations and guidance;
  • partnering with other governmental agencies to extend the effectiveness of division programs; and
  • administrating funds relating to its programs.

The division's operational, regulatory and administrative programs are performed within the administrator's office and two bureaus.
