How to obtain Safety and Buildings Division codes Code titles changing: Administrative codes previously under the authority of the Department of Safety and Professional Services were retitled to reflect the authority of the new Department of Safety and Professional Services. "Comm" codes are "SPS" codes as of January 1, 2012. Also, "300" was added to all the current code numbers. For example, Comm 81 is now SPS 381. SPS 305 was Comm 5. Here is an index of links to S&B-related Wisconsin administrative free online codes. Paper copies of Wisconsin administrative codes may be purchased from the Document Sales and Distribution office of the Wisconsin Department of Administration. Document Sales offers an update service, for a fee, to provide copies of any state code revisions during a subscribed period of time. 608-264-9419. Commercial Building Codes, SPS 360-366The Wisconsin Commercial Building Code can be obtained from Document Sales, as noted above, or is free online. The Wisconsin Commercial Building code adopts parts of 2009 editions of the International Code Council Codes. The 2009 adopted International Code Council codes and commentary are available from that organization, http://www.iccsafe.org/. Free insert pages for the September 1, 2011, Wisconsin Commercial Building Code changes are available. The Safety and Buildings Division has a paper archive of old codes in the Madison office that can be seen by appointment. S&B does not have electronic copies of codes that were in effect in the past. There is a roundabout way to get access to Internet PDF copies of some older codes on the Legislative Reference Bureau's Web site. More info on how to do follow that process, PDF file.
