Asbestos:
The asbestos and lead abatement and investigation activities in Wisconsin (including licensing people to do removal and abatement) are regulated by the Asbestos and Lead Section of the Bureau of Occupational Health, Division of Public Health, Department of Health Services, http://dhfs.wisconsin.gov/Asbestos/index.htm .

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) requires proper inspections, notification and removal of asbestos containing materials for renovations and demolitions. COMcheck-EZ, - COMcheck-EZ, federal Department of Energy software approved in Wisconsin for showing compliance with thermal envelope requirements, interior and exterior lighting requirements ONLY (HVAC portions are not acceptable. Note COMcheck-Plus is not acceptable.) COMcheck is used for commercial buildings or high-rise (>3 stories) multi-family buildings.

Complaints, consumer:
The Safety and Buildings Division of the Department of Safety and Professional Services cannot enforce consumer/ contractor agreements. Legal affairs are enforced through civil courts or can be referred to the state Department of Ag, Trade, and Consumer Protection, http://datcp.state.wi.us/.

Construction Codes Report:
The Wisconsin Construction Codes Report was replaced in January, 2007, with monthly Internet division-wide news compilations.

Continuing Education Classes:

Continuing education terms:
SPS 305, Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations Code, rules (see online) require that continuing education periods end three months before a credential expires (for credentials that have CE requirements; some don't). That is to allow course providers and S&B staff time to process the hours of credit. There is no continuing education requirement for the first renewal after obtaining a credential. Contractor License:
If someone wants to obtain building permits for one- and two-family dwellings, the business needs a Dwelling Contractor Certification and needs to employe someone with a Dwelling Contractor Qualifier Certifications. Both the certifications are needed to get the permit, not to do the work. More info.

A general contractor credential for businesses (even one-person businesses) is the Building Contractor Registration. More info.

There are trade credentials that some people consider contractors' licenses. For example, to do any plumbing, a person needs a plumbing license. Electrical contractor licensing is a local question. Find more about various credentials here, http://dsps.wi.gov/SB/SB-DivCreds.html.

Farm Buildings used for Public Storage:
Farmers may obtain an annual license (Public Warehouse Keeper License) from the state Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection.

Food Vending Carts need a Retail Food Establishment License issued by the state Department of Health Services, Section of Food Safety and Recreation.

General Contractor License:
To work under the Wisconsin building codes, a business needs one of the dozen or so Wisconsin contractor licenses.  The minimum contractor license is the Building Contractor Registration. To obtain building permits for one- and two-family dwellings (UDC), a company needs the Dwelling Contractor Certification and the Dwelling Contractor Qualifier Certification. Out-of-State Credentials: There are no reciprocity agreements to provide Wisconsin credentials to people holding credentials from other states. A person who has a credential from another state which in Wisconsin involves an apprenticeship may file a petition for variance from the Wisconsin credential regulation. P Petroleum Tanks:
Petroleum tank programs are not administered by the Safety and Buildings Division. They are in the Environmental and Regulatory Services Division.
