S&B Dwelling Contractor Education
The
Safety and Buildings Division of the Wisconsin Department of Safety and
Professional Services
administers two Dwelling Contractor credentials:
1.)
Dwelling Contractor Certification
2.)
Dwelling Contractor Qualifier Certification
People
holding the first credential - Dwelling Contractor
Certification - do not need continuing education to renew
their certification.
People holding the second
credential - Dwelling Contractor
Qualifier Certification - need 12 hours of continuing
education over two years to renew their
certification. The initial 12-class people took to
obtain the qualifier certification does not count for them as
continuing education toward renewal. People who did not take
the initial course, who were "grandfathered" into the qualifier
certification, need to take continuing education.
There is
no grandfathering for continuing education.
Note
the difference between two types of courses - 12 hours of inititial
training versus 12 hours of continuing education. Taking the
initial training course or being grandfathered does not effect the need
to take continuing education to renew the qualifier certification.
*** The
customer identification number for
a Dwelling Contractor Certification will be different than the number
for a Dwelling Contractor Qualifier Certification, even if
they were applied for by the same person. The
contractor number is issued to a business and the qualifier number is
issued to an individual. |
Dwelling
Contractor Qualifier Certification is issued to an
individual for two years from the date issued. In order to renew,
qualifiers need to complete 12 hours of approved continuing education
by three months
prior to the expiration of the certification. Renewal
postcards are
mailed out 45 calendar days prior to the expiration of
the certification. Qualifiers have the option of renewing online or by
mail.
Even if
someone was grandfathered in to having the qualifier certification,
they need to complete 12 hours of
approved continuing education by three months prior
to expiration.
If someone has not
completed their continuing education requirements three months
prior to the expiration, they will be mailed a late renewal letter and
will have to pay a late renewal fee. The
qualifier certification will not be approved until
the continuing education requirements are met and the course provider
has given S&B the attendance record.
Dwelling
Contractor Certification is issued to a business for one year
from the date issued. Dwelling Contractors do NOT need continuing
education for renewal. Renewal postcards are
mailed out approximately 45 calendar days prior to the expiration of
the certification. Dwelling Contractors have the option of renewing
online or by
mail.
