Six-Inch Soil Saturation Indicator Guide

* A technical bulletin issued by an ad hoc Wisconsin Society of Professional Soil Scientists committee is recognized by the Safety and Buildings Division as useful for soil and site evaluations. The guide helps determine if a Wisconsin soil is saturated within 6 inches of the ground surface, which is of importance in the placement of some private onsite wastewater treatment systems. 6-inch Indicator Guide V1.0 12-05 Link to WSPSS Site, PDF file, Word file

* The WSPSS guide references a National Resources Conservation System publication: "Indicators of Hydric Soils." http://soils.usda.gov/use/hydric/ That publication online does not include the preambulatory sections of Introduction, Concept, Cautions, Procedure, or Comment. (In Wisconsin, the region covered by glacial deposits is within LLR K and the driftless area in the southwestern portion is within LLR M.)
