The Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling and Social Work Examining Board is created in
Wis. Stat. § 15.405(7c) and has authority as outlined in
Wis. Stat. ch. 457. The Board convenes to address matters of joint interest and is divided into three Sections to address matters specific to its respective professional areas.
Members
The members of the Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling and Social Work Examining Board are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Legislature to serve 4-year terms. The Board consists of thirteen members: three marriage and family therapist members, three professional counselor members, four social worker members and three public members who represent groups that promote the interests of consumers of services provided by persons who are certified or licensed under
Wis. Stat. ch. 457.

Announcements
Substance Use Disorder Specialty
Act 262, which was passed in April 2018, included provisions that impact the scope of service for individuals holding the LPC, LPC-temporary, PCTL, MFT-TL, LMFT, and LMFT-temporary credentials. In particular, these individuals are now able to provide treatment for Substance Use Disorders consistent with the scope of service that their training, experience, and supervision support. LCSW and LCSW-temporary credential holders already had this ability even before Act 262. It is no longer necessary, from a licensing perspective, for any of these individuals to hold a substance use disorder specialty to provide this service. As a result, DSPS has updated policies to reflect that substance use disorder specialties will no longer be granted to these individuals, as it would be redundant. There may be other regulations that impact the provision of Substance Abuse treatment in various settings.

MPSW 1.09 relating to the substance use disorder specialty has been updated effective December 1, 2015.
