EFDA Continuing Education

A Wisconsin credential to practice as an expanded function dental auxiliary (EFDA) granted under Wis. Stat. § 447.04(3) is permanent unless revoked and not subject to periodic renewal (Wis. Stat. § 447.05​(1)(b)). However, credential holders must maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and meet continuing education (CE) requirements.

  • Current proficiency in CPR, including the use of an automated external defibrillator (Wis. Stat. § 447.035(3)(b)4)), and​
  • Continuing Education (CE) - Except for the first two-year period after certification is granted, certificate holders must certify CE completion every two years (Wis. Admin. Emergency Rule EmR2304​). 

CE courses must be sponsored or recognized by a local, state, regional, national, or international dental, dental hygiene, dental assisting, or medical related professional organization.  Continuing education credit may also be granted for study groups as defined in Wis. Admin. Code DE § 13.05(3) (Wis. Admin. Emergency Rule EmR2304​).

NOTE: Continuing education requirements do not apply to the biennium in which a license is first issued.
