​​​​The Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) issues temporary Bridge licenses, also commonly referred to as “Act 10" licenses. This page  provides general information to help in decisions about Bridge/Act 10 license applications and license status in Wisconsin.

What is a Bridge/Act 10 license?

A temporary license that allows health care providers with a valid, unrestricted license in another state to immediately begin practicing in Wisconsin while they apply for a permanent Wisconsin license. This license type was created by Wisconsin 2021 Act 10, legislation drafted to support the state's Covid-19 response.
  

When would I need such a license?

If you are a health care professional with a valid, unrestricted license from another state, and you desire to practice in Wisconsin, you can apply for a Bridge/Act 10 license when you apply for your permanent license. This will enable you to immediately practice while you await the decision on your permanent license application.
 

How long is my Bridge/Act 10 license valid?

A Bridge/Act 10 license is designed to enable health care professionals with a valid, unrestricted license in another state to practice while they await a decision on their permanent license application. The Bridge/Act 10 license is only valid for 60 days from the date issued. Applicants may receive a 30-day extension of their Bridge/Act 10 license if all of their permanent application materials are submitted, and they are still awaiting DSPS review and approval of their permanent license. An applicant can receive more than one extension. Requests for an extension can be made by clicking on the “Request Support" tab on the home page of at license.wi.gov.
 

How can I continue to practice in Wisconsin after my Bridge/Act 10 license expires and I still do not have a permanent license?

Applicants may receive a 30-day extension of their Bridge/Act 10 license if all of their permanent application materials are submitted, and they are still awaiting DSPS review and approval of their permanent license. An applicant can receive more than one extension. Requests for an extension can be made by clicking on the “Request Support" tab on the home page at license.wi.gov
