License Information​

Per Wis. Stat. § 440.08 (2), the required renewal date for the Cosmetology Establishment credential is 03/31/ each odd-numbered year.  Should you receive your initial credential in the months leading up to this date, you are still required to renew your license by the statutorily defined date.

All establishments where cosmetology is practiced must be licensed as a cosmetology establishment. Establishments must also obtain a license before opening a new business, relocating an existing business, or a changing the ownership of the business.

A person who is not licensed under Wis. Stat. 454.06 by the cosmetology examining board may own or operate an establishment, but may not practice barbering, cosmetology, aesthetics, electrology,​ or manicuring. A person who owns a cosmetology establishment shall employ at least one person as a manager who holds a cosmetology license and manages the establishment on a full-time basis. The manager of a cosmetology establishment shall ensure that the establishment operates in compliance with Wisconsin statutes and rules promulgated by the examining board.


Mobile Establishments:

Mobile Establishments are defined in Cos. 1 as an establishment providing cosmetology, aesthetics, electrology, or manicuring services located in a mobile vehicle or mobile structure and, where applicable, any tow vehicle attached to the mobile establishment.

A mobile establishment license is valid for a specific vehicle or mobile structure and may not be transferred to a different vehicle or mobile structure. The mobile establishment's name as shown on the license shall be visibly displayed and clearly legible on at least one exterior side of the mobile establishment.

To apply for a Mobile Establishment License, follow the application for the respective establishment in LicensE and answer yes to “Is this a mobile establishment?"

In addition to the standard application materials, mobile establishment applications require a description of the vehicle or mobile structure to be used as the mobile establishment, photographs of the interior and exterior, and a copy of the vehicle registration certificate of the mobile establishment.​
