Pursuant to 2017 Wisconsin Act 319, beginning August 1, 2018, an applicant for an initial credential may apply for a reduction of the initial credential fee that is equal to 10% of the initial fee. Qualification is based on the federal adjusted gross income being at or below 180% of the federal poverty guideline prescribed for the applicant's family household size by the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Wis. Stat. § 440.08 (2), the required renewal date for the Interior Designer credential is 07/31/even years. Should you receive your initial credential in the months leading up to this date, you are still required to renew your license by the statutorily defined date.
Complete one of the following required Education/Experience:
- Graduation from a 5-year interior design or architecture program and have at least one year of practical experience in interior design, OR
- Graduation from a 4-year interior design or architecture program and have at least 2 years of practical experience in interior design, OR
- Have completed 3 years of an interior design program and have at least 3 years of practical experience in interior design, OR
- Graduation from a 2-year interior design program and have at least 4 years of practical experience in interior design.
Registered Architect Provision
An individual who is registered as an Architect under
Wis. Stats. § 443.03, who has graduated from a 4-year architectural program and has at least 6 years of demonstrated practical experience in interior design is eligible to be registered without having to meet the requirements stated above.
