Overview
The Dentistry Examining Board believes the citizens of Wisconsin need unrestricted access to dental services for public health and safety. We believe the dental profession is able to use their training, education, experience and expertise to determine the best course of care for our Wisconsin residents and our patients. Dentistry has always followed the highest level of infection control.
Officers & Members
The members of the Dentistry Examining Board are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Legislature to serve 4-year terms. The Board consists of 6 licensed dentists, 3 licensed dental hygienists and 2 public members.

Partnering with the Marquette University School of Dentistry (MUSOD), the Wisconsin DSPS developed the 2025 Wisconsin DSPS Dental Workforce Report to better understand the current make-up of the Wisconsin dental workforce - and provide any insights into future trends/needs.
Effective as of 10/1/2017, pursuant to DE 13.03 (1m), the 30 credit hours of continuing education shall include 2 hours in the topic of responsible prescribing of controlled substances for the treatment of acute dental pain. This first applies to the biennium ending in 2019.
2015 Wisconsin Act 269 granted authority to the Dentistry Examining Board to issue guidelines regarding Best Practices in Prescribing Controlled Substances, as defined in Wisconsin Statute Section 961.01, subsection 4 for persons credentialed by the Dentistry Examining Board who are authorized to prescribe controlled substances.
