Overview
Provides consultation and education about camping unit construction standards and inspection procedures. This code applies to camping units set in a fixed location in a campground permitted by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP). Camping units contain a sleeping place for seasonal overnight camping. This code includes related electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and camping unit transfer tanks.
Permit
Permits are required for construction of new camping units containing a sleeping plan and used for seasonal overnight camping. The unit must be set in a fixed location in a campground licensed by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS).
Where Can I Get a Permit?
If the municipality covering your project location has been delegated authority to issue permits, and the project is not for a state-owned building or land, contact the municipality directly.
Check the Delegated Agent List to determine if your municipality is delegated or for contact information.
If your municipality is not delegated, submit a permit application to DSPS via esla.wi.gov. See the eSLA Customer Information page for getting started in eSLA.
Inspection
Inspections are required for construction of new camping units. When ready for an inspection, notify the inspector identified on your building permit.
