Overview
Enforces safety requirements for power boilers, heating boilers, pressure vessels, nuclear power plant components, and power piping. Shop and field consultation and inspections are provided.
Installation Registration
Boilers and Pressure Vessels
Equipment not exempted under SPS 341.41(b) must be registered with DSPS before commencing operation. The installer/contractor must submit SBD-6314-E, Registration for Pressure Vessel Installation, prior to placing the equipment into service.
After installation, the owner must provide the SBD-6314 registration form (revised, if appropriate) via esla.wi.gov. Registration by the owner will result in a permit to operate (PTO). You will need to provide:

Power Piping
Systems not exempted under SPS 341.41(2)(b) must be registered with DSPS before commencing operation. The shop fabricator/installer must submit SBD-5204, Registration for Power Piping and Welded Refrigeration Piping Installation, to the inspector prior to placing the equipment into service.
Registration will result in a permit to operate (PTO).
Permit and Inspection
Owners must hold an active permit to operate (PTO) for each boiler and pressure vessel equipment object (unless the boiler is in a one- or two-family dwelling unit).
Any boiler, even stand-by boilers connected for occasional operation, must be inspected by DSPS or its contracted agent prior to renewing a PTO. Inspections required for PTO renewal are performed separately from inspections required by your insurance agency.
PTO Renewal

Expiration Schedule
Power Boiler - Annual
Heating Boiler (steam or hot water) - Every 3 Years
Pressure Vessels - Every 3 Years
