Our Commitment to Accessibility

 

The Department of Safety and Professional Services is committed to ensuring our website and digital services are accessible to all users, including individuals with disabilities. Accessibility is a core part of our mission to provide equitable access to information, services, and opportunities.

We strive to meet recognized accessibility standards and continuously improve the user experience for everyone.

Digital Accessibility Guidelines

We strive to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 standards in addition to Section 508 digital accessibility compliance requirements. These standards guide how we design, develop, and manage accessible content and services. Our goal is to provide content accessible to most people in most circumstances.

Our commitment to accessibility includes:

  • Providing text equivalents for images.

  • Creating accessible forms.

  • Supporting flexible font sizes.

  • Ensuring sites are functional without a mouse.

  • Testing that pages have at least a 9.0 Accessibility Impact score (learn more here: https://wave.webaim.org/aimscore).

  • Images of text are only used for decorative purposes.

  • Limiting use of Flash and JavaScript. When used, ensuring the site is still functional if these technologies are not available to users.
