Escalator Skirt/Step Performance Index
Requirements
ASME A17.1 (2016), 8.6.8.15.19 requires for testing escalator step/skirt performance.
Step/skirt performance index for escalators must meet A17.1, 8.6.8.3.3 as follows:
< 0.15 if not equipped with brushes.
< 0.25 if brushes are provided on escalators installed under the 2007 or 2013 codes.
< 0.40 if brushes are provided on escalators installed under the 2000 and earlier codes.
Licensed elevator personnel employed by a licensed contractor must complete these and all required annual escalator tests prior to the expiration of the permit to operate. Ideally, the tests would be completed prior to the annual inspection, which may take place up to 120 days before expiration of the permit to operate per SPS 318.1011(5)(a) 2.
Results must be submitted to the department, agent municipality or service agent having jurisdiction.
Results submitted to the department or service agent must be provided using the SBD-6E form.
Location of Completed Test Forms
A record of the tests using form SBD-6E shall be included in the conveyance Maintenance Record.
