Hand Sanitizer Dispensers Inside Elevator Cars

Are hand sanitizer dispensers allowed in conveyances?

In accordance with the national Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators, ASME A17.1 – 2016 / CSA B44-16 adopted by Wisconsin Administrative Code Ch. SPS 318, hand sanitizer dispensers are not to be installed inside elevator cars.

A17.1, 2.14.1.9.1 limits equipment inside elevator cars to the following:

Support Handrails.
Fastening devices for padded protective linings.
Lift hooks, conveyor tracks and support beams for freight elevators.
Picture frames, graphic display boards, plaques and similar visual displays meeting requirements for rounded edges and limited projection from the wall surface.
Heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment.
Hand sanitizer dispensers for use by elevator passengers may be installed in elevator lobbies instead of inside cars.
