Refrigeration Certification and Contractor Registration
What are the Wisconsin licensing requirements for a contractor installing ammonia and freon refrigeration equipment?
There is no refrigeration exam required. Contractors installing refrigeration equipment that serves HVAC equipment are required to obtain the Wisconsin HVAC Contractor registration. See SPS 305.70. Each service technician handling ozone depleting refrigerants is required to have an EPA-608 certification. Note the EPA-608 certification is for servicing commercial AAC/refrigeration systems and the EPA-609 certification is for servicing automotive (mobile) aur conditioning.
